Temperature Rating: 500° F Continuous
FME Sponges/Foam Plugs are designed to keep tubes, pipes, and machinery openings clean during weld prep and other maintenance activities. They have Low halogens, and are trusted foreign material exclusion devices for fossil and nuclear power plants.
Very popular for use during turbine repairs and overhauls. FME Sponges are performance tested and made in the USA.
Sizing Sponges:
(N)PL-1 ID less that .9”
(N)PL-1.25 through 4 -True to size
PL-5 through 8 ID at least 3/8 smaller than plug OD
PL-9 through 20 ID at least ½ smaller than plug OD
PL-22 through 36 ID at least ¾ smaller than plug OD
PL-38+ ID at least an inch smaller than plug OD
Standard vs Laminated vs High Temp. Sponge
Standard and Laminated are both made from the same material. 212° F Continuous Heat
Laminated comes with a protective Kevlar Nomex layer on the top to resist sparks.
High Temerature is a different material composition that can withstand up to 500° F Continuous Heat. High Temperature Sponges also come completely encased in Kevlar Nomex.
